Friday afternoons are often a time when we waste the rest of our work day surfing the web, procrastinating on Facebook, and watching the clock tick slowly by waiting for quitting time.
I have been meaning to post about two blogs that have featured our upcoming nuptials. First off is the lovely blog post written by my bridal party hair accessory creator Buttons n' Blossoms, featuring the lovely flower fascinators she made for my bridesmaids and our flower girl.
Earlier this month I went antique shopping for a few things we are looking for to help decorate for the wedding. And found this beautiful dresser that I am going to use as a guest book table.
Earlier today when I was Pinning Away, I saw this on the Wedding Chicks blog. And I thought, I could definitely do something similar in the small top drawer (what do you call that? lingerie drawer? underwear drawer?) of my dresser.
Not only is it Friday and I'm ready to start my weekend (and Spring Break), but it is also opening day of The Hunger Games! Last week I finished the first book. It took me forever to get up the motivation to pick up the book (actually decided not to buy it—that's hard with my book obsession—but since everyone and their mom owns it, I decided to borrow it) and see what the hype was all about. I can't lie that it did take me a moment to get into the book. I would read a chapter here and there before bed, and then easily go to sleep. But by chapter 18 I was hooked! I couldn't put it down! I stayed up way too late some nights and even took it to my sub job and read it during lunch and prep time—at least it was a good conversation starter with sixth graders! I am waiting to borrow the second book from someone, but until then I can satisfy my hunger for the movie!
Last night I even had a dream that it turned into a Broadway musical and the singing and dancing was violent, yet beautiful! Sometimes I wonder about my highly detailed film rolled dreams. I think I inherit that from my mother.
...Anyway...here are some great and absolutely dangerous things I found online.
And lastly, since we all know I spend a lot of time on wedding blogs these days, I think this one is necessary and so genius! So if Katniss and Peeta got married in a trendy shabby chic sorta way, I imagine it would look something like this:
After a busy week of errands, holidays, and subbing, I am taking a moment to update my blog this afternoon. I thought I would start with what Kenny and I did to celebrate our love. And yes, even though I would agree with most that Valentine's Day is so commercialized by this point, it is run by flower shops, candy stores, and primarily Hallmark—I have to say in the busyness of life, it is easy to take love for granted. So Kenny and I both agreed that it was nice to have an excuse to spoil each other and go out on a much-needed date. Kenny seems to out do himself every year and I think he found the biggest box of chocolates he could find! Complete with the best Disney love story ever and beautiful diamond heart earrings (sorry they are hard to see). I was able to gift Kenny a gift card for a massage, which he so appreciated!
For dinner we went to Gustav's, drank beer (Kenny) and wine (me), while eating cheese fondue and wonderful dishes of chicken schnitzel and roast duck. After a wonderful dinner we went to Cinetopia for more drinks and saw the movie Safe House. It was a very "Bourne Identity" movie. You just have to love Denzel Washington!
After this eventful week, I am taking a moment this afternoon surfing the web and saw this on my favorite site: Engagement Ring 101. You should see the different celebrity engagement rings! They're crazy huge!
Last weekend I celebrated my dear friend and bridesmaid's ("schmookums") birthday. It was so nice to have a girls night out and of course we went and saw The Vow. And loved it! If you love sappy romantic movies and Rachel McAdams, you will more than likely enjoy the movie. Check out this blog entry: I Vow to Love the Smell of My Significant Other's Farts. And if you did not know already, this movie is based on a true love story: The Vow: The Kim and Krickitt Carpenter Story.
OK, so here it is. So we all know who Zooey Deschanel is right? Adorable actress from Elf and 500 Days of Summer, and more recently from her hit new TV show "New Girl," as well as the ever popular "She & Him" (sweet, lyrical vocals). Well, if you did not know already, Zooey partnered up with a producer and a blogger genius to bring us HelloGiggles, an entertainment blog for all the intelligent, lovely ladies out there. And I have to say (after my dad kept telling me to look at "Zooey's blog"), that I am in blog heaven! There is not a single thing I have come across that does not resonate with me or that I do not say "Oh, I love that!" So if you need to kill some time on this cold, winters night while you're watching outside your window hoping and praying for snow (like I am), check out HelloGiggles and you'll get swept in too! (Oh, by the way, Zooey is a January baby too—her birthday is exactly 10 days after mine! Seriously, could she be my kindred spirit?)
To conclude this blog post I think I will leave you with a Zooey video (featured with her 500 Days of Summer costar) from New Years Eve. Enjoy!
Today we bought our tickets to the Portland Bridal show, which falls on my birthday. But it caused me to start looking at the wonderful bridal blogs I follow.
After a cold afternoon outside helping my dad put up the Christmas lights, I am now sitting on the couch adorned in sweats, covered with a blanket, high-top knitted slippers, and my very own lap warmer: my laptop. (The only thing missing—fingerless gloves so I can type without numb phalanges.)
I've been gradually working on my 2011/2012 wish list for this holiday/birthday season. You may be wondering about the Scarlett O'Hara doll/clothes...those who know me well know I'm obsessed with GWTW and collect anything that has to do with it!
Speaking of GWTW, I am thinking of this being my 2011 ornament. Or add to my Barbie collection this year. I think Kenny would appreciate the Thor ornament. I was looking at all the Hallmark "Our First Christmas" and "New Home" ornaments—can't wait to be able to purchase one of those (or both of those) for our first tree in our first home!
With this Christmas break, I have decided to take a momentary semi-hiatus on wedding planning. This is such a busy month, I thought it best just to use this time to work on little projects, but mostly just enjoy this time with family and enjoy our first Christmas as an engaged couple. We have limited ourselves to just pinning down a couple important decisions by the end of year, so we'll be ready for the home stretch in January (especially after the Portland Bridal Show—on my birthday!).
P.S. Congratulations to my UO Ducks on winning the Pac 12 Championship! We are now heading for Pasadena!
If you liked the Rice Bowl recipe I posted from Meagan's blog and are an avid blogger, please check out Everything Golden's 25 Days of Christmas Memories! The cold, winter nights are a good time to do some blog reading and we all enjoy a moment of nostalgia.
